What are the basic characteristics of asbestos rope?

The asbestos fiber has high axial tensile strength, up to 374*10^4 kg/m³. But it is not wrinkle-resistant. After several wrinkles, the tensile strength decreases significantly. Twisting and other processes made it into an asbestos rope. It now has strong mechanical strength.

The thermal conductivity of asbestos fiber is 0.104~0.260 kcal/m*℃*h. Its structural water content is 10% to 15%. Heating at 300°C for two hours causes less quality loss. So, asbestos rope has good heat resistance.

The conductivity of asbestos fiber is also very low. Chrysotile fiber has a surface thermal resistance of 8.2*10^7~1.2*10^10 Ω. Its volume-specific thermal resistance is 1.9*10^8~4.79*10^9 Ω*cm. So, the asbestos rope is a good insulator.
